Jacob's Teddy Bear Picnic 1st Birthday

On August 17th, we held Jacob's 1st birthday party at a local park. It was a success!! We were so lucky to have such great weather that day. Our friends also help us set up and my friend Geff was our photographer. Most of our friends came and the food were so delicious. We couldn't have asked for anything more.

Since Jacob is half Korean, I wanted to make sure that he gets to experience Korean culture and traditions. So for his first birthday, we did a doljabi. Doljabi is a fortune telling ritual wherein the child chooses his/her future path. For Jacob's doljabi, the items we had were a stethoscope (doctor), mic (musician), crayons (artist), book (scholar), ball (athlete) and money (wealth). During the party, our friends and families got to vote which item they think Jacob will choose. I prepared 6 buckets; 1 for each of the item and raffle tickets. He also wore a hanbok which is the traditional Korean outfit. He was sooooo cute and he looked like a mini emperor  hehe.

He chose a stethoscope! We didn't get a good picture of him touching the stethoscope because he cried and rushed to his daddy.

I also prepared 12 pictures from birth up to 12 months so our guests can guess the right order. Noone got everything correct. The winner got 7 correct items.

For decorations, I made 2 dol towers. 1 has his Korean name and the other is a dragon since he was born on the year of the dragon. I made them using paper towel rolls, lima beans and black beans. It took a long time to do them but it was definitely worth it. They came out really nice.

Here are some of the photos from the party. Enjoy!

If you are in the NYC area and are interested in using the vendors I used, here is the list.
